Gameschool Friday: Der Verzauberte Turm

This one is a little harder to find here in the states, but it’s so fun. Der Verzauberte Turm is a hide-n-seek race to rescue the princess from the tower before the wizard intercepts you. The wizard hides a metal key in a cubby and covers it with a token that bears a simple symbol. The tokens can be randomized to add to difficulty. The Prince and the Wizard then take turns to race to find the key. Since the wizard knows where the key is, the prince gets a head start. The metal key will “clink” onto the magnetic characters when it is found. It’s a very satifying sound. 😀 But wait! Once you find the key, you still have to try the locks in the tower to see if the princess will be freed. If she doesn’t enthusiastically jump out of the tower, the key is rehidden and the search begins again.
We love this game because it’s a quick, easy play that is still engaging and fun for whoever is playing. It’s a great game for those “Mommy, will you play a game with me?” moments when I don’t have 30 minutes to commit to a game with more gameplay or setup time. It’s also a great game that two siblings can play together without any help from me, although sometimes there will be accusations of peeking. It’s very concrete and self-correcting, which makes it an even playing field between children of all different abilities.
